10th Sitting of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality

At the sitting held on 30 June, the members of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality considered the Activity Plan for the remainder of 2017 and set up a Working Group to review initiatives, petitions and proposals within the Committee’s purview.


Presenting the Activity Plan, Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic said that in addition to regular activities such as reviewing independent state bodies’ annual activity reports and quarterly reports of the Government Office for Human and Minority Rights, the Committee is to be visited by the members of the European Court of Human Rights, work on intensifying inter-committee cooperation on the action plans for chapters 23 and 24, and organize topical sittings outside of the Assembly seat in Subotica and Novi Pazar.

Omerovic said that as part of its regular activities the Committee would also work on passing the legislative framework within its scope and by the end of the year he expects bills on gender equality, national minority councils and fundamental rights and freedoms of national minorities to enter assembly procedure, as well as bills on the Ombudsman, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, and amendments to the Criminal Code concerning sanctions for sexual abuse i.e. amendments set out in the action plans for chapters 23 and 24.

Following a debate the Committee members unanimously adopted the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Activity Plan for the remainder of 2017.

The Committee then proceeded to set up a five-member Working Group for initiatives, petitions and proposals, to be headed by Chairman Meho Omerovic, with Maja Videnovic, Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic, Ljibuska Lakatos and Vesna Ivkovic as members.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Meho Omerovic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Natasa St. Jovanovic, Enis Imamovic, Vesna Ivkovic, Miletic Mihajlovic, Milanka Jevtovic Vukojicic, Tatjana Macura, Olivera Ognjanovic, Ljibuska Lakatos, Elvira Kovacs and Ljiljana Malusic.
