National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ragus Meets with Uzbek Senate First Deputy Chairman
National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Marina Ragus, met in the National Assembly with the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Uzbekistan, Sodiq Safoyev, currently visiting Serbia to take part in the conference marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Ragus and Safoyev exchanged views on the global situation and relations in international politics, and agreed that in the current geopolitical circumstances, the Non-Aligned Movement can serve as a model for future cooperation based on established rules, respect for international law, and the revitalisation of the role of the United Nations.
Marina Ragus thanked Uzbekistan for its principled stance and respect for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing that support at the multilateral level is of utmost importance in the attempts of so-called Kosovo to gain membership in international institutions and organisations.
The officials agreed that parliamentary cooperation is a significant segment of overall bilateral cooperation, and that further work should be done to intensify contacts between the parliamentary friendship groups and working bodies of the two parliaments, in order to discuss specific topics and possible joint projects.
They particularly highlighted the possibilities for cooperation in the areas of modern technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as in combating climate change.
The meeting was also attended by the non-resident Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Serbia, Oybek Shahavdinov.
