National Assembly Delegation Takes Part in Interparliamentary Conference in Copenhagen

A delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia headed by Biljana Pantic Pilja and also including Foreign Affairs Committee member Aleksandar Mirkovic, Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Deputy Chairman Darko Jovanovic and Defence and Internal Affairs Committee member Dragan Markovic, is taking part in the Interparliamentary Conference for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), held 26 – 28 August 2025 in Copenhagen Denmark, which is currently presiding over the EU.

On day one of the Conference, Foreign Affairs Committee member Aleksandar Mirkovic spoke at the debate on the future of European Foreign and Security Policy, reacting to the address of Croatian MP Andro Krstulovic Opara and his inappropriate and untruthful comment on the Republic of Serbia and its role in the Western Balkans today, as well as the role it had in the wars of the 1990s.

Mirkovic spoke of the importance of the European values that all the member states, Croatia included, should strive for. He underlined Serbia’s commitment to democracy, the rule of law and protection of human rights, recalling the recent events in the Republic of Croatia which testify to the growing presence of undemocratic values conflicting the EU’s civilizational aspirations. He posed a question to all the participants of the conference, do European values also mean the organisation of a concert in Croatia that favours Nazi symbols and salutes.
