At the joint sitting of the European Integration Committee and the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications held on 12 February 2026, the members of two committees were presented the work of the Transport Community in 2025 and the activities in the coming period.

The Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community Matej Zakonjsek presented the Transport Community 2025 Activity Report and the activities in the coming period, as well as the overall results of the work of the Transport Community, the entire EU region with a special focus on transport in Serbia.

Serbia's current position as regards compliance with EU transport legislation was in special focus of Zakonjsek’s presentation. Serbia adopted most transport rules by mid-2025, but it still needs to adopt more EU transport regulations in the next two years in order to meet its obligations under the Action Plan.

Zakonjsek points out that Serbia, as part of the Trans-European Transport Network, is a key link between the north and south of Europe.

Speaking of railways, Serbia is cited as an example for the region due to the opening of the railway services market and investments in infrastructure, which is part of the broader Action Plan for the period 2025–2027, with a special focus on modernisation of the railways and improvement of border crossing.

As for the road sector, Zakonjsek said that the adoption of new road laws and accompanying bylaws in this area will contribute to improving the systemic safety of all traffic participants and achieving full compliance with the standards of the Transport Community.

Key measures include the introduction of intelligent transport systems and electronic exchange of cargo information, in order to reduce costs and bureaucracy, Zakonjsek said.

After the presentation, the members of the two committees asked questions and had a discussion with the Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Milan Radin, Stanislav Janosevic, Ana Miljanic, Goran Milic, Branislav Josifovic, Sanja Dzajic, Zagorka Aleksic, Dr Aleksandra Tomic and Robert Kozma.
