Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications Committee Chairman Ugljesa Markovic Meets with Ombudsman MA Zoran Pasalic

The Chairman of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications Ugljesa Markovic met today at the National Assembly with Ombudsman MA Zoran Pasalic to discuss the current issues within the Committee’s purview.

In the course of the meeting, the officials exchanged opinions on topics of importance to the Committee's scope, and agreed on further forms of institutional cooperation with the aim of boosting the efficiency of protecting citizens' rights in the areas covered by the competence of this working body.

The Committee Chairman underlined the importance of continued cooperation with the institution of the Ombudsman, stressing that parliamentary oversight and consideration of the Ombudsman's recommendations represent an important mechanism for improving the legislative framework and resolving the problems the citizens encounter in practice.

The Ombudsman stressed that, via regular reports, the institution he heads draws attention to systemic shortcomings and offers recommendations aimed at strengthening legal certainty and protecting citizens' rights. He also informed the Committee Chairman about citizens' complaints regarding the work of local governments in resolving utility problems.

The officials agreed that it is necessary to continue the intensive dialogue and joint activities, in order to further improve the position of citizens and strengthen their trust in the work of state bodies through institutional cooperation.
