Representatives of the parliamentary groups that make up the parliamentary majority spoke in the National Assembly with the Head of the Western Balkans Division in the European External Action Service Zuzana Michalkova Sutiakova about the priorities on Serbia's political agenda and the European path of Serbia and the entire Western Balkans region.
The meeting was attended by representatives of ALEKSANDAR VUCIC - Serbia Must Not Stop Parliamentary Group Nevena Djuric, IVICA DACIC - Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Parliamentary Group Dunja Simovovic Bratic, Social Democratic Party of Serbia Parliamentary Group Branimir Jovanovic, Dragan Markovic Palma - United Serbia Parliamentary Group Zivota Starcevic, PUPS - Solidarity and Justice Parliamentary Group Stefan Krkobabic and Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians Parliamentary Group Elvira Kovacs.
In the conversation with the Head of the Western Balkans Division, they said that Serbia's foreign policy priority is membership in the European Union and that all the parliamentary majority groups in the National Assembly strongly support Serbia's entry into the EU. They emphasised the Parliament’s important role in passing laws and regulations with the aim of harmonising domestic legislation with the European acquis.
During the conversation, the MPs assessed that a positive signal from the EU would give impetus to the further integration of Serbia, bearing in mind that for two years now no new negotiating cluster has been opened, which affects the growth of Euroscepticism among Serbian citizens.
They opined that in the current geopolitical circumstances, the war in Ukraine is the issue that dominates the EU's focus, but they stressed that they were pleased with the enthusiasm the EU demonstrated for the integration of the Western Balkans, shown through the "Growth Plan for the Western Balkans".
The meeting also discussed adjusting Serbia's foreign policy with the EU and the introduction of restrictive measures towards Russia, which, the representatives of the parliamentary majority said, Serbia, because of its own experience of the life under sanctions, would not introduce, but that it supports the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of Ukraine.
The normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina and the continuation of the dialogue is an important topic from the perspective of the stability of the entire region, as well as progress in Serbia’s European integration, the MPs agreed in the conversation with the Head of the Western Balkans Division and pointed out that the regime of Albin Kurti and the provisional institutions in Pristina are doing all the can to make Serbs leave the territory of Kosovo-Metohija and ethnically cleanse the area of Serbs and non-Albanian population.
They underlined Belgrade's commitment to dialogue to resolve the open issues and problems of the citizens living in Kosovo-Metohija. At the same time, they pointed out that the provisional Kosovo institutions are not implementing the agreements reached, reminding that the Brussels Agreement was signed 11 years ago yet the Community of Serb Municipalities has not yet been formed.
