National Assembly Speaker at COP 27: Friendship and Common Commitment to Global Fight against Climate Change Confirmed
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic took part in the parliamentary meeting within the framework of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27), on 13 November 2022, in Sharm el-Sheikh.
At the Conference, Serbia's role in the IPU was confirmed, as was its friendship with Egypt, the country that hosted COP 27 this year. Gratitude was expressed to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia for its participation, support and commitment to the activities of the oldest parliamentary organisation. Egypt’s proactive attitude to the fight against climate change was also affirmed.
In the interactive segments of the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences concerning the role of parliaments in the fight against climate change, emphasising the need to take concrete actions on this front as soon as possible.
It was assessed that, by participating in the Conference, the Republic of Serbia has demonstrated the importance it attaches to the fight against climate change and contributed to the common fight and restoration of solidarity between countries.
At the end of the meeting, the participants adopted a final document confirming the parliaments’ commitment to the global fight against the harmful effects of climate change, which are an existential threat to our planet. It was also announced that the next, 28th Conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, will be held next year in the United Arab Emirates.
