Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Slovene Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Tanja Fajon and expressed his belief that the two countries will continue working together to improve their comprehensive cooperation.

"Slovenia is one of the ten largest investors in Serbia and our trade exchange is setting records. We can always do better and we are ready to continue strengthening economic cooperation," said Dr Orlic, particularly emphasising the importance of the "Open Balkan" initiative, which is an excellent impulse for new investors and with it an incentive for the economic progress of the entire region.

The officials confirmed the good bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Slovenia, which, Dr Orlic stressed, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia will also contribute to. There is room to improve parliamentary cooperation, especially after the formation of parliamentary friendship groups in both parliaments. Milija Miletic, Head of the PFG with the Republic of Slovenia who attended today's meeting, confirmed his willingness to intensify contacts with fellow members of the Slovenian parliament.

Minister Fajon emphasised Slovenia's strong commitment to the further development of bilateral and economic relations, as well as continued support for Serbia’s European integration process.

The current situation in the southern Serbian province was also on the agenda. "Serbs in Kosovo are protesting - peacefully, non-violently and are completely justified. They demand that, after ten years of lies, the assumed and signed obligations are implemented in practice. Pristina’s response to the request to set up the Community of Serb Municipalities came in the form of daily arrests, harassment and brutal violations of basic human rights. The situation is extremely difficult, but, as you have heard from European officials, Belgrade and the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic are the ones who are trying to preserve peace and stability for everyone, while on the opposite side, we encounter only irrational behaviour and flagrant trampling of all agreements,” said Dr Orlic.

Minister Fajon underlined the importance of the full implementation of the agreements reached so far, which bind each party, and called for the preservation of peace and stability through dialogue.
