Deputy Speaker Ragus Meets with Dr Janicijevic, Serbian Humanitarian and Donor from the USA

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus met today with Dr Nenad Janicijevic, one of the most influential Serbs in the diaspora and former leader of the Serb National Federation, the most significant Serbian organisation in the United States.

Deputy Speaker Ragus thanked Dr Janicijevic for the years of humanitarian work and assistance that he personally, as well as in cooperation with the Serbian diaspora in the USA, provided to our people during the war conflicts and the years spent under sanctions.

Dr Janicijevic is a successful physician, who has an Emergency Medicine Clinic in Pittsburgh and who was among the first in the Serbian diaspora in the USA to organise humanitarian aid to the Serbian people during the war conflicts in the former Yugoslavia in the form of medicines and medical supplies worth over 185 million US dollars. Also, considering that he is a doctor by profession, Dr Janicijevic donated over 40 thousand professional medical books, worth several million US dollars, to our medical institutions.

His humanitarian work makes him one of the largest donors, whose goal is to help the Serbian people and church, both in the USA and in the homeland. Among other things, he is a donor to the construction of the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade and the Church of Saint Paul in Smederevo, and in the USA he has helped publish books of national importance and erect monuments to Serbian greats. Today, Dr Janicijevic is helping to create a film with the working title "Saint Prince Sava", which is being filmed in various locations in Serbia and follows the life path of our greatest educator.

For many years, Dr Janicijevic was also the leader of the Serb National Federation, one of the oldest and most important Serbian organisations in the USA, founded in Pittsburgh in 1901, and whose honorary presidents included the great Mihajlo Pupin and Nikola Tesla.

The meeting was also attended by Aleksandar Vlajkovic, a well-known journalist-editor and connoisseur of our diaspora.
