Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society Committee Chairman Meets with Ombudsman Zoran Pasalic

The Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Technological Development and the Information Society, Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic, met today with Ombudsman Zoran Pasalic to discuss current issues in the field of education.

They discussed the proposals for the improvement of the exercise of citizens' rights (general recommendations) from the Ombudsman’s 2024 Annual Report, as well as the updated data on individual recommendations from examination procedures in 2025. The Ombudsman also informed the Committee Chairman about the preparation of a draft law on the ban on the use of mobile phones in primary and secondary schools. He said that the goal is to create a safer and more stimulating educational environment, adding that it is of utmost importance that the Ministry of Education, competent institutions, the professional community and parents be included in the process of its development. So far views have been exchanged on the topic with relevant associations, but the matter requires a broader public debate in order for it to be comprehensive and applicable in practice.

Prof. Dr Marko Atlagic highlighted the importance of the topics discussed, emphasising that the issue of mobile phone use in schools has broader significance.

The officials agreed that a comprehensive and inclusive approach is necessary for creating legal solutions concerning children and youth, and that dialogue between institutions is an important step in that process.
