Presenting the Ministry’s Activity Information to the Committee members, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that the economic situation and the scope of the budget were the main factors limiting the realisation of goals. In addition, it was noticed that the number of students and classes in primary and secondary schools have been dropping and vocational secondary schools need to be reorganized to comply with the needs of local economies. Minister Obradovic informed the Committee members about the new pilot project for the implementation of a new funding system covering 16 schools in Serbia, and about the funds which are to be invested into constructing centres of excellence.
Prof. Dr Desanka Radunovic, President of the National Education Council, spoke of the Council’s 2012 Activity Report and Activity Plan. She said that the analysis of pre-school, primary and general secondary education performed in said period pointed to a dearth of data in the sphere due to the education lacking an information system. The President of the Council informed the Committee members that guidelines for the improvement of the role of ICT in education are being prepared.
The Committee members and the Ministry representatives discussed the reform of the education system, expert training for teaching staff and funding for post-doctoral studies.
At the sitting, the Committee formulated the Proposal of the Decision relieving Prof. Dr Nebojsa Janicijevic from the duty of member of the National Council for Higher Education, as well as the Proposal of the Decision relieving Prof. Dr Slobodan Antic from the duty of National Education Council member.
