Biography

Elvira Kovacs, Bachelor of Economics, Member of Parliament, Vice-President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM), member of the Presidency of SVM.

She was born on 18 July 1982 in Zrenjanin. Finished Primary school in Mihajlovo and graduated from the Zrenjanin grammar school. She studied at the Faculty of Economics in Subotica, where she was also the student vice-dean and studied for one semester at the Wirtschaftsuniversitaet in Vienna at an exchange programme. She graduated in 2006. 

From then until July 2007, she worked in the Executive Council of Vojvodina, in the Provincial Secretariat for Healthcare and Social Policy.

Her career in the political life of Serbia began in 2000. She became a member of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM). Since 2006, she has been a member of the presidency of the party’s Youth Forum. Founder of the SVM Women's Forum and its president 2009-2015. 2015–2019, 2019–2023, as well as 2023-2024, vice-president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, and since 2024, member of its Presidency.

Since 19 July 2007 she served her first, 11 June 2008 second, 31 May 20912 third, 16 April 2014 fourth, 3 June 2016 fifth, 3 August 2020 sixth, 1 August 2022 seventh and 6 February 2024 eighth term of office as member of parliament. In the 12th and 13th legislature of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, she has served as Deputy Speaker, Deputy Head of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians Parliamentary Group, Chairperson of the European Integration Committee, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and member of the Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.

Since October 2007, she has been member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. From January 2018 to January 2020, Chairperson of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination, from January 2020 to January 2022, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Gender Equality, and since January 2023, Chairperson of Sub-Committee on Rights of Minorities. From 2022 to 2024, she has been a Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Married, mother of one son.
