TWENTY-SIXTH SITTING OF THE COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND THE FAMILY

The Committee on Health and the Family held its twenty-sixth sitting on 28 December 2009. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Dr Paja Momcilov.

The Committee members discussed the proposals forwarded to the Committee on Health and the Family by citizens and organisations.

The Committee members also discussed the proposal of Prof. Dr Dragana Jovanovic who expressed her dissatisfaction with the disciplinary proceedings initiated against her before the Court of Honour under a civil complaint that had already been ruled on by a different authority, and who therefore believes she is suffering a personal disqualification in view of her work against corruption in health care.

Considering it, following the discussion, the Committee concluded that, when discharging its duties as public authority, the Medical Chamber i.e. the Courts of Honour who rule on violations of professional duty or reputation of a chamber member, must initiate and conduct proceedings against a member of their own with due care and in line with the Law on Chambers and based on material i.e. reliable evidence.

The Committee on Health and the Family also discussed the request of the Serbian Association of health care beneficiaries Club “Health” demanding that the Committee take a stand on the endangerment of the lives of patients suffering from malignant illnesses at the Sremska Kamenica Institute of Oncology. Following the discussion on the issue the Committee adopted the following Conclusions:

1. The issue of the patients suffering from malignant illnesses and undergoing radiation treatment at the Sremska Kamenica Institute of Oncology should be resolved together with all the institutions of the system.

2. The citizens of the Republic of Serbia may not be denied their right to health care protection.

3. The Committee advocates the observance of the law and requests that possible infringement of the law be ascertained, as well as the responsible persons.

The Committee members went on to analyse the Committee’s activities in the previous period and adopted a work plan for 2010.
