THE SPEAKER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MEETS THE SPEAKER OF THE SOBRANJE OF THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dr Oliver Dulic talked today with the Speaker of the Sobranje (Assembly) of the Republic of Macedonia, Ljubisa Georgievski, at the National Assembly House.

During the conversation it was declared that both countries strive to further good neighbourly relations and are determined in favour of European future and prosperity. The common goal of both Macedonia and Serbia is an expedient inclusion in European integrations, as well as contributing to the creation of conditions for furthering economic relations, improving the life standard of the citizens of the two countries and establishing stronger relations in the region.

The speakers agreed that the cooperation of the two parliaments must be improved and that is was necessary to establish a direct cooperation of the Assembly Committees, particularly those on foreign affairs and European integrations.

Speaker Dulic informed the members of the Macedonian delegation that an annual regional gathering of parliament speakers hosted by the National Assembly of Serbia is planned as part of the initiative for furthering the cooperation of the parliaments of countries of the region. The goal of the gathering is to continue the talks on the implementation of CEFTA and to resolve specific economic problems which would contribute to making the Balkans a region of peace, stability, good neighbourly relations and economic prosperity.

In support of the expressed proposal, Speaker Georgievski agreed with the estimate that further initiative is necessary to improve the total cooperation in the region, most of all on the economic level. He stressed the importance of conversation between the two countries about the CEFTA, because Serbia is an important economic partner to Macedonia.

Deputy Speakers of the National Assembly, Milutin Mrkonjic and Bozidar Delic, also participated in the conversation with the Macedonian parliamentarians.
