Successful Fight against Corruption Impossible without Rule of Law and Efficient Judiciary

Taking part in the anti-corruption conference on 14 March 2017, at the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, entitled “Combating Corruption through the Improvement of the Legislative Framework”, MP Dubravka Filipovski presented the anti-corruption activities and results of GOPAC Serbia, stressing the importance of regional cooperation and exchange of anti-corruption experiences.

Speaking of the informal parliamentary approach and introduction of transparency into the fight against corruption in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia she stressed that: “Corruption erodes the people’s trust in the political system and depletes public resources, which is why every country must suppress corruption and instate zero tolerance for it. To achieve this, the fight against corruption must be indiscriminate and include all institutions, it must be transparent at all levels, and the state must be held accountable”.

Filipovski concluded that a successful fight against corruption is impossible without the rule of law, efficient judiciary and a clear legislative and institutional framework, which is why one of the parliaments’ chief goals should be control of the executive and supervision over public finance.

Dubravka Filipovski reminded the assembly that Serbia has been conducting the Anti-Corruption Strategy Action Plan 2013 - 2018 and passed a new Public Procurement Law, as well as the Law on Whistle-Blowers which has in only a year resulted in 299 trials, 213 of them completed, and introduced the Public Finance Supervision Portal as a tool for controlling the executive.
