Roundtable Toward the EU Digital Single Market: Serbia between Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities

Today, the National Assembly hosted the roundtable entitled "Toward the EU Digital Single Market: Serbia between Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities", co-organised by the Green-Left Front – Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own Parliamentary Group and SHARE Foundation.

The National Assembly was host to representatives of the legislative and executive authorities, as well as experts in the field of the digital market, who exchanged opinions on European and domestic digital regulation in this area.

Addressing the participants of the roundtable, MP Dobrica Veselinovic pointed out that this topic, although at first glance narrowly specialised, is one of the keys to our accelerated accession to the EU.

"Besides the future challenges such as climate change and social inequality, I think that digital transformation is an area in which we can make a very quick and serious leap forward," said Veselinovic.

He pointed out that his parliamentary group in the National Assembly is always on the trail of progressive policies, with the desire to open new issues around which the civil sector, state institutions and European partners can come together. Veselinovic added that this is the right moment to restore trust in our European process and take a step further with our development agenda and growth plan, in order to feel part of the common European family and make economic progress. At the same time, this is a moment for geo-political positioning in the field of digital transformation, which is important both for Serbia and the EU, as well as facing the challenges of harmonising the relationship between market freedom and human rights, lack of human resources, privacy, consumer protection and more, which all requires ensuring the involvement of the academic community and the civil sector, so that our results are sustainable, long-term and effective, said Veselinovic.

"That is why we have to demonstrate leadership, vision, sincerity and will and take seriously the recommendations from the European Commission's Report, and at the same time demonstrate the existence of dialogue between the state, MEPs and the civil society on such important topics," concluded Veselinovic.

In addition to MP Veselinovic, the participants of the roundtable were also addressed by Tomislav Momirovic, Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade, Miroslav Gacevic, Assistant Minister of European Integration, Vladimir Prebilic, Member of the European Parliament, Djordje Krivokapic, Professor of the Faculty of Organisational Sciences and Snezana Bajceta, researcher of the SHARE Foundation, while MPs Radomir Lazovic and Robert Kozma, as well as numerous experts in the field of digital transformation, also participated in the gathering.
