Participation of Zoltan Pek, member of the Delegation of the National Assembly to the PABSEC, in the 44th Meeting of the PABSEC Cultural, Educational and Social Affairs Committee

At the invitation of the Great National Assembly of Turkey, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), Asaf Hajiyev and Chairman of the Cultural, Educational and Social Issues Committee, Joan Vulpesku, a member of the Committee, Zoltan Pek, participated in the 44th Meeting of the Committee held in Ordu, Turkey, 1-2. April 2015.


The event was attended by delegations of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Turkey. The topic of the Meeting was: “The Role of Sport in Promoting Growth, Employment and Social Cohesion in the BSEC Region“, and the Rapporteur was Zoltan Pek. It was estimated that the importance of sport in the world was growing. The process of globalisation has an impact on the entire world of sport and plays a significant role in the creation of policies. Sport also contributes to national and international economies, because the competition will not only create jobs, but sport is a sustainable investment and affects various industries. Following the adoption of the Draft Report, Zoltan Pek was appointed Rapporteur for the General Assembly on the same topic. During the discussion, the national delegations presented the situation of sport and physical education in their countries. It was emphasized that improving sports infrastructure was of great importance. And when it comes to the youngest, sport helps children to participate in social activities, to achieve their potential; sport creates a sense of belonging and increases self-confidence and health, creates equal opportunities and social cohesion and prevents the youth to be involved in illegal activities. The Draft Recommendation was put forward by Adem Tatli, candidate for Vice President of the Committee. The Draft Report and Draft Recommendation will be forwarded for consideration of the 45th General Assembly of PABSEC, which will be held in Chisinau, Moldova, 8-9. June 2015. Following the adoption of the Draft Recommendation, the election of the Vice-President of the Committee was conducted, Adem Tatli from Turkey and Serhiy Kunitsyn from Ukraine were unanimously elected. It was agreed that the next, 45th meeting of the Committee would be held in Tirana, Albania, in October 2015. The main item on the Agenda will be “Combating Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Heritage in the BSEC Region”. Mrs. Polina Karastoyanova, Head of the PABSEC Bulgarian delegation and Member of the Committee, was designated as Rapporteur.
