PFG with Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Island States Meets with Australian Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Island States, Dragan Stanojevic, spoke at the National Assembly with the Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, Peter Truswell, about how best to improve interparliamentary cooperation.

Dragan Stanojevic said that Australia is a country very familiar to Serbia, given the large Serbian diaspora living there. He assessed that there is great potential to raise interparliamentary cooperation to a higher level, emphasising his personal readiness to contribute to more intensive contacts between parliamentarians.

Ambassador Peter Truswell agreed that the existing potential should be used to establish closer cooperation in various areas, underlining the value of the Serbian diaspora in Australia, which maintains strong ties with its homeland.

The officials agreed that the exchange of visits by parliamentary delegations would be of mutual benefit, as would the organisation of meetings between businessmen from the two countries. There are also opportunities for deeper cooperation in the fields of tourism, trade and modern technologies, they pointed out.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the current situation in the two countries. OFG Head Dragan Stanojevic expressed condolences for the innocent victims of the attack in Sydney. He also informed the guest about the difficult situation and human rights violations of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, reminding that Serbia is fighting to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
