National Assembly Standing Delegation at 52nd Meeting of PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee

The National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) comprising MA Igor Becic, head of the delegation, and member MA Ivan Kostic, took part in the 52nd meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Legal and Political Affairs Committee in Kavala, Greece, on 17 and 18 October 2018.


In addition to the Republic of Serbia, the meeting was also attended by the parliamentary delegations of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia, Greece, the Russian Federation, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine.

The Committee discussed “The Role of Trade Unions in Strengthening Economic Cooperation in the BSEC Region” and approved a recommendation and report on the topic, to be adopted at the 52nd PABSEC Plenary Session in November. In the discussion, the parliamentarians stated that trade unions play an important role in strengthening the system for the protection of human rights and securing social and economic development. They highlighted the importance of trade unions in the dialogue and partnership for the improvement of the citizens’ living standards.

The Serbian delegation also had plenty bilateral contacts during which it presented the country’s economic reforms, constructive social dialogue, economic growth and the improvement of the living standard in Serbia. They stressed that, in Serbia, freedom of unionization is protected under the law and workers have the right to set up and join organizations of their own choosing.
