The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with Josip Juratovic, Chairman of the Bundestag’s Parliamentary Group for South-East Europe, and Friendship Group members of Boris Mijatovic and Tomas Hacker.
Praising the high-quality and regular dialogue between the two countries, the officials drew attention to the fact that numerous German officials have visited Serbia in less than a year, underlining the importance of the announced participation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in the 59th Munich Security Conference.
Overall, the bilateral relations between Serbia and Germany were declared very good, especially in the economic sphere. "Germany is our leading economic partner, among the largest investors and the most important bilateral donor. German companies in Serbia employ 80,000 workers and we hope that, in the near future, that number will reach 100,000", said Dr Orlic.
The members of the Bundestag welcomed the progress Serbia has made in the field of judicial reform, emphasising Germany's support for the efforts Serbia is undertaking on its path to EU membership, which Dr Orlic thanked them for. "Despite the significant and confirmed results, our European path remains burdened by the issue of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, in which, on principle and at all levels, we implement a policy of peace and stability and seek a compromise solution, even though we are faced with dangerous, unilateral moves from the opposite side, with the obvious intention to completely destroy the dialogue. We demand the immediate establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities, which we have been waiting for for ten years, and Kurti openly announces that he will never form it. We demand that safe living conditions be ensured for the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija. They also shoot at children there just because they are Serbs and when political representatives of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija say that people today live harder than ever - they are telling the truth," said Dr Orlic, adding that officials from the EU and the USA are now openly expressing recognition of President Aleksandar Vucic's serious and responsible attitude to dialogue. The members of the Bundestag pointed out the significance of preserving peace and stability in the entire region, as well as the continuation of cooperation in all areas of importance.
The officials expressed willingness to continue to foster interparliamentary ties, primarily through the exchange of visits at all levels and joint activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Federal Republic of Germany and Bundestag’s Parliamentary Friendship Group for SEE. The meeting was also attended by Aleksandra Tomic, Head of the PFG with the Federal Republic of Germany.
