National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson and Members Meet with Delegation of Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies Committee on Foreign Affairs

The Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Aleksandra Djurovic and members met today, at the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies, headed by the Committee Chairman Karel Schwarzenberg.

The meeting focused on Serbia’s Euro-integration, the migrant crisis and the improvement of interparliamentary cooperation.

National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic stressed that the Republic of Serbia considers Euro-integration a priority, adding that, in view of the progress achieved in the talks with Pristina in late August, it expected the first negotiation chapters to be opened soon. The National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson thanked the Czech Republic for its firm support of Serbia’s Euro-integration.

She added that, besides Euro-integration, regional cooperation is also one of Serbia’s foreign policy priorities, pointing out that Serbia’s moderate stance had shown that the country’s goals are cooperation, peace and stability. Speaking of the migrant crisis, Djurovic said that Serbia has been striving to offer the necessary assistance to the about 150,000 migrants that have passed through the country so far. Regarding it, she thanked the Czech Republic for being the initiator of the Western Balkan Fund through the Visegrad Group, and for its financial aid to Serbia.

Aleksandra Djurovic opined that bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Czech Republic is intensive, and that the two countries enjoy excellent interparliamentary cooperation, but that there is always room to expand cooperation further.

The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies Karel Schwarzenberg said that the Czech Republic’s policy that all the Western Balkan countries should join the European Union as soon as possible is consistent and constant. He congratulated Serbia on the way it tackled the migrant crisis, saying that it had shown a real European attitude. Schwarzenberg also congratulated Serbia on the intensive reforms and concluded that the Czech Republic would continue to support Serbia’s European integration process.

The meeting was attended by National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee members Vesna Markovic, Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Zlata Djeric, Vera Paunovic and Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic.
