National Assembly Deputy Speaker Vesna Kovac Talks to Member of European Court of Auditors

Today, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Vesna Kovac met with Szabolcs Fazakas, member of the European Court of Auditors.


The topics of conversation were the political and economic situation in Serbia and their impact on the relations between Serbia and the EU and Serbia’s progress in preparation for EU accession, Serbia’s progress in public finance management and the fight against corruption, as well as the IPA financial assistance Serbia was granted by the European Commission.The National Assembly Deputy Speaker briefed the representative of the European Court of Auditors on the current situation in Serbia, the economic situation in particular, hoping that a positive decision as regards the beginning of talks with the European Union would enable Serbia to, using the pre-accession funds, improve the currently bad economic situation. Vesna Kovac expressed her gratitude for the financial support Serbia received from the European Commission deeming that the funds have been used rationally and have contributed to Serbia’s institutional empowerment. She emphasised the importance of intensified control of public spending opining that the new Law on Public Procurement would contribute to a more efficient public finance management and help reduce corruption.The member of the European Court of Auditors, Szabolcs Fazakas, endorsed Serbia's dedication to its EU goal and its efforts to deal with the biggest challenges such as the fight against corruption and continuation of the ongoing public administration and judicial reform. He opined that Serbia has taken positive steps to that end and would continue to have the European Commission's support in its progress toward Euro-integration.
