National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic Talks to German Bundestag Member

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic met today at the National Assembly with Peter Bayer, member of the German Bundestag, to discuss cooperation, Serbia’s European integration and the state-of-play of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic said that the relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Federal Republic of Germany are good and the cooperation is at an admirable level, both political and economic. Arsic thanked Germany for its strong support of Serbia’s European integration, stressing that Germany is the biggest investor in Serbia, with German companies employing over 45,000 Serbian workers.

Speaking about Kosovo-Metohija, Arsic said that it is vital to continue the dialogue with the Albanian side in order to find a lasting and sustainable solution. The National Assembly Deputy Speaker said that Serbia is ready to continue the dialogue with Pristina despite the fact that while it had fulfilled all of its obligations under the Brussels Agreement, the Albanian side had fulfilled none. The normalization of relations between Serbs and Albanians is crucial for the political stability and economic progress of the whole Western Balkan region, said Veroljub Arsic stressing that Germany’s support for the continuation of the dialogue is very important.

Bundestag member Peter Bayer that the relations between Serbia and Germany are good and praised the high level of interparliamentary cooperation. He also voiced the initiative to, in support of the Berlin Process conducted at the governmental level, encourage cooperation between the parliamentarians of the Bundestag and the Western Balkans states in view of the important role parliaments play in any society. Speaking about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Bayer informed the National Assembly Deputy Speaker about Germany’s well-known stance on the status of Kosovo-Metohija and proposed border corrections.

The German MP said that his country supports the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue because it is interested in the peace and security of this part of Europe. Bayer agreed with Arsic that the final solution should be a sustainable and lasting one and that the two sides should invest their best efforts into finding a solution in the interest of all the citizens which will contribute to the stability of the entire region.
