National Assembly Deputy Speaker Djordje Milicevic Meets with Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker Sergey Ivanovich Neverov

Under the auspices of the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO PA) in Yerevan, Armenia, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Djordje Milicevic met with Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker Sergey Ivanovich Neverov.


The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Djordje Milicevic said that the bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation are very good and politically, economically and culturally speaking very well-developed. Regular meetings at the highest level, such as the recent visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade in WWII, greatly contribute to the development of cooperation.

The Deputy Speaker thanked the Russian Federation for its principled stance on Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, unswerving support of dialogue and opposition to Pristina’s politics of force and unilateral moves. He praised the excellent interparliamentary cooperation and the establishment of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia - Russian State Duma Cooperation Commission which had its 4th session on 5 June in Belgrade. Stressing that the PFG with Russia with its 134 members is the largest one in the National Assembly, Milicevic praised the excellent cooperation between the countries’ parliamentary delegations in international parliamentary institutions.

He commended the excellent economic cooperation opining that the Cooperation Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union opens up new prospects. The officials also discussed intensifying the already admirable economic, agricultural, energy, infrastructure, defence, culture, science, art and touristic cooperation.

Deputy Speaker Milicevic underlined Russia’s role as defender and builder of a just international order and advocated respecting international law and the UN Charter, as well as the fundamental principles of international law such as the principle of territorial integrity of sovereign states. He condemned the sanctions against the Russian Federations saying that Serbia will never join them. Deputy Speaker Milicevic stressed that Serbia is a sovereign and independent state that pursues its own policies.

Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker Sergey Neverov praised the two countries’ excellent bilateral relations at all levels, greatly aided by the excellent relationship between their presidents. He commended the growth of economic exchange, as well as the two countries’ constructive dialogue conducted between equals full of mutual understanding. The Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker underlined the substantive and successful work of the two parliaments’ Cooperation Commission and reciprocal support of the parliamentary delegations in international parliamentary organizations. He also congratulated Serbia for the successful organizations of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Belgrade, with its many opportunities for substantive talks.

Deputy speakers Milicevic and Neverov emphasized the importance combating historical revisionism and keeping the memory of the allied fight in WWII.

The National Assembly delegation taking part in the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation also comprised the Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to CSTO PA Milovan Drecun, and standing delegation members Jovan Palalic and Zoran Radojicic.
