National Assembly Deputy Speaker Djordje Milicevic Meets with Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Djordje Milicevic met with the Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia currently in working visit to the Republic of Serbia.

Deputy Speaker Milicevic thanked the Indonesian delegation for the visit on the behalf of National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic and himself, stressing that the two high-level visits one after the other are a testament to the dynamic and sustained cooperation between the two parliaments.

Milicevic thanked the delegation for the Republic of Indonesia’s principled stance on the status of Kosovo-Metohija and against its UNESCO bid, emphasizing the maintenance of good inter-religious and state relations between Serbia and Indonesia, as the biggest Islamic country in the world. He added that, as an EU candidate country with a clear prospect for full membership, the Republic of Serbia is open to investment, trade and strengthening economic relations.

Michael Jeno, Head of the Indonesian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia, said that high-level visits strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, highlighting the importance of the recently achieved agreement on visa-free regime for bearers of service and diplomatic passports. He took the opportunity to mention his country’s humanitarian aid to Myanmar for the migrant crisis and added that sharing experiences of this kind would be useful for Indonesia seeing how Serbia has handled the migration crisis that is rocking Europe. He said that Indonesia appreciates Serbia’s efforts to maintain a peaceful dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and keeps its principled stance on Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The officials agreed that there is room for cooperation at the economic, cultural and educational level, and Milicevic said that the political and economic stability Serbia offers now makes it one of the most attractive destinations for investment in this part of Europe.
