Natasa Vuckovic and Milica Dronjak Talk to European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor

European Integration Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic and the Chairperson of the Committee on Labour, Social Issues, Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction, Milica Dronjak met yesterday, at the National Assembly House, with the European Commissioner in charge of employment, social affairs and inclusion, László Andor.

European Integration Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic informed László Andor about the National Assembly’s preparations to take part in the monitoring of the EU talks. Saying that labour and social policy laws have largely been harmonised with European legislation, she outlined the problems encountered in their implementation. It is necessary, said Vuckovic, to improve social dialogue at the national and local level, underlining high unemployment and the shadow economy as priority problems to be addressed.

The Chairperson of the Committee on Labour, Social Issues, Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction, Milica Dronjak briefed Andor on the Committee’s scope and duties, highlighting the importance of the topics it deals with.

The European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, László Andor said that European Union membership means more than just employment opportunities for all of its citizens, emphasising the importance of the social reforms offered by the European Union.

The officials agreed that Serbia’s problems of high unemployment rates and shadow economy call for economic reform which would enable the Serbian economy to function more efficiently

The meeting was attended by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Michael Davenport.
