The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Portugal, Prof. Dr Mileta Poskurica, briefed the guest on the history of parliamentarism in Serbia and the structure and competences of the National Assembly. Poskurica also spoke of the current political situation in Serbia, thanking Portugal for its support of Serbia’s European integration.
Ambassador Peixoto opined that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Portugal are at an admirable level, expressing hope that Serbia would be granted a start date for EU membership talks on 28 June. He also commended Serbia’s efforts to come up with a compromise solution to the delicate situation in Kosovo-Metohija.
The meeting also touched on the opportunities to boost trade between Serbia and Portugal, as well as strengthen economic ties, so as to improve the Serbian citizens’ quality of living. They also stressed the potentials for intensifying cooperation in the spheres of education, science, technological development, environmental protection and renewable energy resources.
The officials agreed that it would be useful to organise an exchange of parliamentary delegations.
