Members of PFG with Türkiye Meet with Turkish Grand National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Türkiye met today in the National Assembly with a delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye, headed by the Chairman, Akif Çağatay Kılıç.


Branimir Jovanovic, member of the PFG with Türkiye, greeted the Turkish colleagues on behalf of PFG Head Dr Muamer Bacevac, making sure to point out that the current PFG with Türkiye is one of the largest, with 65 members, i.e. a quarter of the total number of MPs, which speaks of interest in the intensification of parliamentary cooperation and is another proof of the upward trajectory of bilateral relations between Serbia and Türkiye.

He opined that the economic and business relations between the two countries as excellent, as evidenced by the fact that from 2018 to date, the percentage of Turkish investment into Serbia has increased to 70%, making the country the seventh most important investor in Serbia. He added that Türkiye is a reliable and good partner for Serbia in the implementation of infrastructure projects, especially road construction, adding that the stability of both countries is a guarantee of stability in this part of Europe.

Jovanovic also thanked Türkiye for the support provided during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for the help directed to the cities and municipalities of Tutin, Sjenica, Novi Pazar and Raska, expressing his belief that there is ample room to improve mutual cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture, education, as well as boost support and cooperation within international organisations.

The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye Akif Çağatay Kılıç invited his Serbian colleagues to a return visit to his country and parliament, whose PFG with Serbia boasts a staggering 304 members, stressing that parliamentary delegation is mirrored by overall bilateral relations between the two countries, and the members of the Turkish parliamentary delegation opined that this is the golden age of diplomatic relations, both at all levels of government and in overall economic activity.

In the meeting, the Serbian and Turkish MPs assessed that parliamentary cooperation provides a solid basis for the further improvement of relations between Serbia and Türkiye, and that the exchange of experiences between parliamentarians is a good example for the citizens of both countries how to build friendly relations.

The PFG member Veroljub Arsic said that good relations, such as the ones that Serbia and Türkiye have, can serve as an example to other countries, as well as a message that outstanding issues need not affect the development of other mutual relations. He thanked his Turkish colleagues for their country's help in preserving the stability of the Western Balkans and reiterated that both countries should be most satisfied with their economic cooperation so far, adding that and intensification of cultural and educational cooperation would contribute to the improvement of relations between our countries and our peoples.

The meeting with the delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye as also attended by PFG members Veroljub Arsic, MA Dejan Radenkovic, Usame Zukorlic, Andrijana Avramov and Jasmina Karanac.
