Members of PFG with Kazakhstan Meet with Kazakh Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Gabit Syzydikbekov

Member of the PFG with Kazakhstan Dragomir Karic highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, adding that this connection should be maintained and upgraded. Karic emphasised the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation with the hope that the epidemiological situation would allow the parliamentarians to meet as soon as possible.

The Ambassador said that Serbia has a true friend in Kazakhstan whose door is always open. He made sure to stress that Kazakhstan remains firm in its position on the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and that it will always stand for respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of every country. He also stressed that as Kazakhstan has always seen Serbia as one of its most important partners in the Balkans, the possibility of strengthening cooperation in general is something that should be considered.

The Ambassador emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and informed the Serbian parliamentarians that the Kazakh Parliament has set up a Friendship Group with Serbia and suggested planning reciprocal visits to allow an exchange of experiences and strengthen ties between the two parliaments.

He said that about 1,500 Serbian citizens live in Kazakhstan, among them a large number of athletes who play for big clubs and even national teams in several sports, and that it was worth considering the possibility of opening a direct flight between Kazakhstan and Serbia.

In the course of the meeting, the Ambassador informed the PFG members about the political reforms in Kazakhstan, adding that this year is the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and postage stamps will be issued to mark the jubilee, as well as that on this day, 60 years ago, Yuri Gagarin flew into space.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Natasa Jovanovic, Djordje Komlenski and Dr Marko Bogdanovic, who praised Kazakhstan’s exceptional economic progress, the country's stance on the Kosovo issue and urged to consider the possibility of cooperation in the field of healthcare.
