Members of National Assembly Delegation to NATO PA Take Part in Sub-Committee on Technological Trends and Security Virtual Meeting

The Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to the NATO PA Dragan Sormaz and the delegation members took part in the virtual meeting of the Sub-Committee on Technological Trends and Security, on 31 March 2021.

The Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Technological Trends and Security Philippe Michel-Kleisbauer, and the Head of the German delegation to the NATO PA Karl Lamers, welcomed the participants.

The virtual meeting had two panels - Biological Weapons and Space.

The first panel dealt with how emerging technologies increase the threat from biological weapons and the extent to which governance mechanisms, i.e. governments, international organisations, the private sector and society at large, can influence modern technologies and the responsibility they carry with them.

The second panel focused on space, as a multipractical area, good for military operations, which can prove fatal. The fact that the universe has been militarised since the launch of the first artificial satellite speaks in favor of this. On the other hand, space is an area where there has never been a conflict between countries or inter-kinetic aggression, given that it is orbited by over 2,000 satellites from 50 different countries and multinational space organisations.
