The Committee Chairman thanked the Republic of Cuba for its principled position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija. The Ambassador stressed that this position will remain unchanged and expressed hope that Serbia will manage to regain its territory, just as Cuba expects the return of Guantanamo.

During the conversation, the Ambassador of Cuba inquired about the status of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture, signed between the Government of Cuba and the Government of Serbia in June 2023. In response, the Committee Chairman informed the Ambassador about a series of socio-political events that influenced the process of adoption of the document and announced that he would consult with the relevant Minister on the issue. Risticevic expressed his belief that the Memorandum would be ratified at the next session of the National Assembly.

The officials agreed that there is significant potential for improving overall cooperation between Serbia and Cuba, especially in the field of agriculture, and the Ambassador emphasised that the appointment of a Serbian ambassador to Havana could play a significant role in this, given that the position has not been filled for two years.
