MPs Natasa Tasic-Knezevic and Sandra Jokovic Address Audience Before Performances Dedicated to International Human Rights Day at Belgrade and Nis National Theatres


Natasa Tasic-Knezevic, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, addressed the audience at the National Theatre in Belgrade before the performance of the opera "Don Quixote". She pointed out that every person's right to freedom is guaranteed under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on 10 December 1948, recalling some of the most important women in history who fought against stereotypes and for freedom - Rosa Parks, Bronislava Weiss - Papusha, Malala Yousafzai, as well as the heroines of our history - Milunka Savic and Dr Ksenija Atanasijevic.

Sandra Jokovic, member of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality, addressed the audience at the National Theatre in Nis, before the beginning of the musical "Some Like it hot". She pointed out that celebrating International Human Rights Day through the combination of art and the very important social topic is a good opportunity to once again remind the public of the need to protect and improve human rights and affirm the principles of equality and non-discrimination. She especially focused on the issue of gender equality in the field of culture, which is an exceptionally important aspect of human rights. On behalf of the City of Nis, the audience was also addressed by Deputy Mayor Dusica Davidovic and the Head of the National Theater of Nis Spasoja Z. Milovanovic.

The Government of the Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Culture, Coordination Body for Gender Equality of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality of the National Assembly supported the celebration of International Human Rights Day at the National Theatre in Belgrade and the National Theatre in Nis.
