MP Katarina Rakic Elected Chair of SEECP Parliamentary Assembly General Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Security Cooperation

The member of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the South East Europe Cooperation Process Parliamentary Assembly (SEECP PA), Katarina Rakic, is taking part in the 2nd Plenary Session of the SEECP Parliamentary Assembly, on 22 and 23 May 2015, in Tirana, Albania.


The Plenary Session is the last event within the parliamentary dimension of the Albanian chairmanship, after which Bulgaria takes over the chairmanship of the South East Europe Cooperation Process.

The Plenary Session was preceded by meetings of the three general committees, Ad Hoc Working Group and the Standing Committee. At the meeting of the General Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Security Cooperation, by consensus of all the members, Katarina Rakic was elected Chair for the next year. The National Assembly is to host the annual meeting of the SEECP Parliamentary Assembly General Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Security Cooperation in the first half of next year.

Committee Chair Katarina Rakic thanked the members for their trust and stressed that she will do her duty responsibly. Katarina Rakic said that the existence of the regional dimension of parliamentary cooperation in the field of judiciary, rule of law and fight against crime and corruption is a crucial prerequisite for the building of a democratic society and legal state.

“Our activities within the SEECP Parliamentary Assembly General Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Security Cooperation should contribute to the exchange of information and best practice in the field”, said Katarina Rakic in her address.

“In the coming period we should join forces and map the priorities and activities necessary to overcome the key regional challenges in the fields of judiciary, internal affairs and security, and integrate the efforts on the coordination of activities and projects in the sphere”, concluded Katarina Rakic and welcomed all the members of the General Committee to the next meeting in Belgrade.

The SEECP Parliamentary Assembly Plenary Session takes place tomorrow and has gathered delegations for 12 states, including representatives from Pristina.
