MP Dr Zukorlic Meets with Czech Foreign Minister Special Envoy for Western Balkans

MP Dr Muamer Zukorlic met today at the National Assembly with the Czech Foreign Minister’s special envoy for the Western Balkans Janina Hrebickova to discuss the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, regional cooperation and the Western Balkans’ European integration prospects.

Dr Muamer Zukorlic said that the future of the region lies in dialogue, reconciliation and tolerance. The Western Balkans are a cultural area and should be viewed as one from the political aspect, said Zukorlic adding that it is appreciated as such by the international community. Speaking of the challenges Serbia is faced with in the case of Kosovo-Metohija, Zukorlic said that the country is doing its best to resolve the issue peacefully, through dialogue and seeking a sustainable compromise, and Pristina’s moves such as the 100% customs tax on Serbian products, hinder the dialogue.

Janina Hrebickova said that the Czech Republic fully supports the European integration of all the countries of the Western Balkans because this is a European region and it should not remain outside of the EU. It is essential that the countries in the region commit to maintaining good-neighbourly relations, Hrebickova stressed.

The officials also discussed the role of the international community in resolving the outstanding issues in the region.
