The Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) Aleksandar Cotric and delegation member Ana Ivanovic met at the National Assembly with the President of the International Fund for the Spiritual Unity of Peoples, based in Moscow, Prof. Dr Valery Alekseev, the Director of the Fund Elena Kaminskaya, and the Fund's representative in Serbia Natalia Kocev.
Aleksandar Cotric thanked the Fund, on behalf of the National Assembly and our delegation to the IAO, for everything it has done, in almost thirty years of its existence, to promote relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation, as well as to preserve our common faith, culture and traditional values.
Cotric also pointed out the importance of the Fund's humanitarian work, thanks to which young people from Kosovo-Metohija have visited Russia on several occasions, as well as its support for the Serbian Orthodox Church, its monasticism and clergy, throughout the territory of Serbia, especially in Kosovo-Metohija.
In the course of the conversation, Aleksandar Cotric particularly thanked the Russian Federation for its support for the territorial integrity and integrity of our country.
The President of the International Fund for the Spiritual Unity of Peoples, based in Moscow, Prof. Dr Valery Alekseev stressed that Russia will always support and defend the rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, in their just struggle for survival in the area where their national identity was formed.
The Fund's activities in the Balkans are aimed at strengthening our political, spiritual and friendly ties, said Alekseev, emphasizing that it is important for Orthodox peoples to maintain good relations. He assessed that Orthodoxy is currently in crisis, due to schism, which is a serious problem, especially now, when the world needs high moral, spiritual and cultural values.
In the course of the conversation, Aleksandar Cotric expressed regret over the developments between Russia and Ukraine, as well as his belief that the conflict will be resolved peacefully, diplomatically, in order to end the daily suffering of the people.
The Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy specifically noted that this international parliamentary organisation does not have the same weight and importance without the participation of the Russian delegation.
