MA Igor Becic Meets with Montenegrin Parliament President Danijela Djurovic on 60th PABSEC General Assembly Sidelines

Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to PABSEC and the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Montenegro, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) Igor Becic, met today with the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Danijela Djurovic, on the sidelines of the 60th PABSEC General Assembly.

Becic stressed how pleased he was to be meeting with Danijela Djurovic, President of the Parliament of Montenegro and the Chair of the South East Europe Cooperation Process Parliamentary Assembly shortly after her first visit to Belgrade as the President of the Parliament.

Agreeing that bilateral relations between the two countries are stable and good, the officials discussed the future activities at the parliamentary level in the form of cooperation between parliamentary committees and friendship groups, taking into account the positive experiences so far.

President Djurovic pointed out that this meeting was a good opportunity to open new topics and channels of communication, as well as to consider opportunities for expanding cooperation. She also thanked the Head of the PFG with Montenegro Igor Becic for the continued cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.

Emphasising the importance of European integration, Becic said that Serbia is facing pressures not characteristic for other countries’ European path. The officials concluded that further exchange of experiences and mutual support on the path to the EU is important, but they also emphasised the importance of regional cooperation.

The officials agreed that. in the current circumstances, broader networking and the concept of regional association greatly contribute to coming up with common solutions to global challenges, adding that all mechanisms that encourage cooperation are important, because that is the only way we can try to understand each other better. One such effort found its expression through the "Open Balkans" initiative - which, through joint cooperation in the region, encourages further development and raises the standard of living of our citizens.

Finally, President Djurovic praised the Republic of Serbia for organising the 60th PABSEC General Assembly, especially in the context of the global situation and the fact that all the PABSEC member states are present at the session.
