Looking Forward to Fruitful Cooperation Between Our Legislatures: Dacic Receives Letter of Congratulations on Election for Parliament Speaker

Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin congratulates Ivica Dacic on his election to the post of Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

“It is with great pleasure that I write to extend my congratulations on your election as President of the National Assembly of Serbia and to wish you much personal and professional success during your upcoming term in office.

The ties between Israel and Serbia have been growing steadily closer, and I view your country as a true partner with which we have shared values and common interests. The greatest indication as to the strength of our bilateral relations is the commitment by Serbia to move its embassy to Jerusalem. I very much hope that this will serve as an example for many other countries that will subsequently relocate their embassies to Israel’s eternal capital.

I would also like to express my appreciation for your work as Foreign Minister to advance the adoption of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism, the restitution of Jewish property, and the establishment of a Holocaust museum. We also fondly remember and value the fact that Belgrade was lit up in blue and white to honour Israel’s most recent Independence Day.

On the parliamentary level, I hope that your election will help develop the ties between the Knesset and the National Assembly of Serbia. I am also confident that the Israel-Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group headed by MK Boaz Toporovsky, will be instrumental in these efforts, and I look forward to news of the establishment of a complimentary group in Belgrade to partner with him in this endeavour.

While looking forward to fruitful cooperation between our legislatures, allow me to once again congratulate you on your election and extend my warmest wishes for continued good health to you and all the Members of the National Assembly.”
