Head of National Assembly Standing Delegation to La Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly MA Jadranka Jovanovic Meets with Gabonese Delegation

The Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, MA Jadranka Jovanovic met today with the members of the delegation of the Republic of Gabon, currently in official visit to Belgrade to attend the 46th International Tourism Fair. The Gabonese delegation includes Murielle Minkoue, Minister of Institutional Reform, and Pascal Ogowe Siphon, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts of Gabon.


MP Jadranka Jovanovic welcomed the delegation to the Serbian Parliament and Belgrade with the hope that the talks and meetings during the visit to Belgrade would be beneficial for both sides. She stressed that we see Gabon as a friendly country and want the best possible bilateral relations, which are currently underdeveloped, adding that there is considerable room for their improvement. She thanked Gabon for its stance on respecting the territorial integrity of Serbia, saying that in the current geopolitical moment it is very important to preserve the principles of international law and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of internationally recognised states. As the Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, Jadranka Jovanovic asked Gabon to support Serbia's candidacy for full membership in the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). She also thanked the Gabonese representative for abstaining during the vote on the Resolution on "Srebrenica" in the UN General Assembly, stressing that Serbia appreciates Gabon's position on this issue, which is of paramount importance and influence, not only on Serbia, but also on all the peoples and states of this region. Speaking of tourism, there is a tourist potential that Serbia can offer, such as beautiful spas and mountains, as well as exchanges in the field of culture and cultural events.

Ms. Murielle Minkoue, Minister of Institutional Reform, expressed her gratitude for the reception, saying that at every step they were met with sincere welcome from the Serbian people. She confirmed that there is ample room for the development of bilateral relations, especially in the field of economy and tourism. She confirmed that Gabon supports Serbia and its positions in international organisations, and will support Serbia's candidacy for membership in the OIF.

Mr. Pascal Ogowe Siphon, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, stressed the importance of bilateral relations with Serbia, recalling the excellent cooperation from the times of the former Yugoslavia. He urged for the continuation and maximisation of exchanges in the field of tourism. He also confirmed Gabon's support for Serbia's positions in international relations. He called for an increase in investment and trade, as well as tourist exchanges. He confirmed Gabon's participation in the upcoming International Exhibition EXPO2027.

At the end of the conversation, Jadranka Jovanovic called for greater participation of students from Gabon in "World in Serbia" scholarship programme for foreign students.
