Head of National Assembly Standing Delegation to IAO at IAO International Secretariat Meeting in Yerevan

The Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) Aleksandar Cotric took part in the meeting of the IAO International Secretariat in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, on 23 April.


Cotric presented the annual activity plan of the IAO Culture Committee which he heads, and informed the Secretariat members on the organisation of the international photo competition on the “Destruction of monuments of the Christian East”.
Cotric said that the IAO, as the organiser of the competition, intends to encourage sensibility and improve the information of the international public about the existence, importance and state of the monuments of the Christian East.
The IAO International Secretariat decided that this year’s, 22nd General Assembly of the organisation be held 25 – 29 June in Vienna with the topic “Orthodox Communities in Europe and the World”.
The Secretariat’s meeting was attended by MPs from Romania, Greece, Cypress, Bulgaria, Armenia, Poland and Serbia.
The IAO delegation Aleksandar Cotric was part of, was received by the Armenian Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan. The delegation underlined the IAO’s commitment to fostering cooperation and unity among the countries belonging to the same or similar spiritual circles and helping address the crises in the Caucasus and the Middle East, and the Speaker affirmed Armenia’s commitment to active participation in the work of the international organisation comprising more than 25 member states.
On 24 April, Aleksandar Cotric laid flowers at the monument by the Eternal Flame at the Armenian Genocide Memorial Centre in Yerevan and attended the central event of the centenary commemoration of the genocide against Armenians with the motto “I remember and demand”.
The commemoration was attended by representatives of many countries of the world, with the presidents of Armenia, Cyprus, France, Russia and the President Serbia Tomislav Nikolic as the keynote speakers.
In the course of his stay in Yerevan, MP Aleksandar Cotric gave interviews to Armenian and other foreign media, and spoke about the centenary of the pogrom against Armenians, the role and importance of the IAO and Serbia’s international cooperation and European integration.
