Head of National Assembly Delegation to OSCE PA Vesna Markovic Takes Part in OSCE PA 21st Winter Meeting

Vesna Markovic, Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly took part in the OSCE PA 21st Winter Meeting, held in a hybrid format on 24 and 25 February 2022 in Vienna, Austria.

The proceedings began with a meeting of the OSCE PA Standing Committee on 24 February, followed by a joint meeting of all three the OSCE PA committees. Day 1 finished with a meeting of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security with the current crisis in Ukraine being the main topic discussed by the participants of the OSCE PA meeting.

On the sidelines of the Winter Meeting, Vesna Markovic met with Kairat Abdrakhmanov, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities. In the conversation with the head of the Serbian delegation, Abdrakhmanov praised the legal solutions regulating the status of national minorities in the Republic of Serbia, adding that in his recommendations he would suggest that Serbia continue to consult with national minorities during the legislative process.

Vesna Markovic briefed Abdrakhmanov on the legal solutions and their implementation, as well as the participation of national minorities in the political life of Serbia. She also informed him about the status of the Serbian national minority in the countries in the region, adding that we expect the same standards that are applied in Serbia to be applied in the region as well.

Day 2 continued with a meeting of the members of the Standing Committee, followed by meetings of the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment and the General Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions.
