The officials discussed the possible improvement of overall relations between Serbia and Kazakhstan with a special focus on economic relations. They underlined the importance of parliamentary cooperation both at the level of the two parliaments and parliamentary delegations to OSCE PA, Council of Europe and other forms of multilateral parliamentary cooperation.

The Head of National Assembly delegation to OSCE PA, Dr Dijana Vukomanovic said it would be good to expand and improve the cooperation between Serbia and Kazakhstan in the year Serbia chairs the OSCE, especially after the friendly country had opened an Embassy in Belgrade. Although territorially distant, the two countries share the same challenges – maintaining peace, democracy and prosperity of the citizens in the Euro-Asian region, said Vukomanovic.

Kazakh Ambassador Nurbah Rustemov briefed the MPs on the current political situation in Kazakhstan saying that there would be an early presidential election on 26 April and inviting the Serbian parliamentarians to come observe it. The officials went on to note the prospects for the continuation of the excellent political cooperation in future, with the Serbian hosts thanking Kazakhstan for its principled non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
