Gojkovic Meets with Cubrilovic and Dodik, Agrees to Set Up Joint Parliamentary Commission

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today in Banja Luka with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Nedeljko Cubrilovic in what was deemed to be another testament to the highest level of closeness, brotherly relations and companionship between Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.


Gojkovic and Cubrilovic agreed to set up a joint parliamentary commission to strengthen cooperation between the parliaments and their committees in a variety of areas such as the economy, healthcare and environmental protection, education and many other matters of interest to the citizens, and which will meet alternately in Belgrade and Banja Luka.

Gojkovic said that the joint parliamentary commission will be established by the end of the month during the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska in Belgrade, so the parliaments will be able to monitor the realization of joint governmental projects and contribute to the strengthening of relations under the auspices of the Agreement on Special Parallel Relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska and Protocol on Cooperation between the parliaments.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic said that the cooperation between Serbia and the Republic of Srpska has been raised to the highest level thanks to the efforts of presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Milorad Dodik who work together on all issues of interest for Serbia and the Republic of Srpska. Gojkovic said that Serbia respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and maintains firm and close cooperation with the Republic of Srpska, adding that it is essential to strengthen these ties in the future, especially in the fields of economy and infrastructure, to make life easier for the citizens who recognize these efforts.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Nedeljko Cubrilovic said that the visit demonstrates the excellent cooperation Serbia and the Republic of Srpska enjoy across the board, stressing how important Serbia’s political support is for the Republic of Srpska, especially the efforts of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in all significant moments for the Republic of Srpska.

Cubrilovic stressed that Serbia’s assistance in the development of infrastructure, especially bridges, construction and reconstruction of schools and kindergartens, and cooperation in the fields of healthcare, education, culture and sport is very important for the Republic of Srpska, and that there is a common interest to preserve the language and script.

Gojkovic informed Cubrilovic about the work of the Serbian National Assembly’s Commission to Investigate the Consequences of the NATO 1999 Bombing on the Health of the Citizens of Serbia, as well as the Environment, with a Special Focus on the Impact of the Depleted Uranium Projectiles, and the two speakers discussed the need to set up a similar commission in the parliament of the Republic of Srpska.

Gojkovic also met with the President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and Prime Minister Zeljka Cvijanovic to discuss advancing political and economic cooperation and parliamentary support for the existing cooperation at the level of executive power.

Dodik said that the cooperation between Serbia and the Republic of Srpska is more than just cooperation between two brotherly countries, it includes infrastructure another concrete example of which will be the opening of hospital “Serbia” in East Sarajevo.

Gojkovic informed both Dodik and Cvijanovic about the work of the Serbian National Assembly’s Commission to Investigate the Consequences of the NATO 1999 Bombing while Dodik said that the Republic of Srpska will make use of Serbia’s experience and do its best to, through concentrated efforts, investigate the matter in full.

In the course of the visit Serbian Assembly Deputy Secretary-General Branko Marinkovic and the Secretary-General of the Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Marko Acic signed a Protocol of Cooperation between the support services of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska to redouble the efforts on strengthening cooperation.

The delegation also included the Chairman of the Serbian National Assembly’s Commission to Investigate the Consequences of the NATO 1999 Bombing on the Health of the Citizens of Serbia, as well as the Environment, with a Special Focus on the Impact of the Depleted Uranium Projectiles and the Health and Family Committee Darko Laketic and the Deputy Secretary-General of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Branko Marinkovic.
