Foreign Affairs Committee Meets with German Bundestag Delegation

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and the Committee members met at the National Assembly House with the members of the German Bundestag Renata Alt and Josip Juratovic to discuss the global political situation, the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the relations in the Western Balkans, as well as Serbia’s reform and European integration.

Speaking of the Belgrade-Pristina talks, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic stressed that Serbia is committed to dialogue and the peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues. Obradovic said that Pristina’s unilateral acts such as the customs tax for Serbian goods and intimidation of the citizens by arrests and show of force by the police endanger the lives of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and prevent dialogue. The Kosovo issue can be resolved only through a dialogue between Serbia and Pristina, not through the enforcement of third party solutions. He said that the Brussels Agreement signed in 2013 is yet to be fulfilled in the part calling for the establishment the Community of Serb Municipalities. The Serbian side on the other hand has met its obligations. Obradovic concluded that if the Kosovo issue is not adequately resolved it will remain a lasting problem not just for Serbia and the Balkans but for Europe at large.

The German MPs Renata Alt and Josip Juratovic had questions about the reforms conducted as part of Serbia European integration process, primarily the results of judiciary reform and fight against corruption, relations with the media and civil society and the relations in the region and regional cooperation.

Committee Deputy Chairperson Dubravka Filipovski spoke about the National Assembly’s legislative activities concerning reform and European integration. She said that the Assembly is having sessions outside of the seat and organizing public hearings as ways to boost transparency and foster dialogue with the civil society.

Committee member Dusica Stojkovic spoke about regional cooperation and the prospects of the Berlin Process.
