Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman and Head of PFG with China Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic Meets with Delegation of Chinese Ministry of Commerce

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic met with a delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce to discuss advancing cooperation between the two countries.

First off, Obradovic said how happy he was with the Serbian parliamentarians’ visit to China, as were the delegation members, adding that these exchanges can help advance the already productive and traditionally good relations between the two countries.

Speaking of the excellent relations between the two states, Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic opined that in this part of the world Serbia receives the most Chinese investments as evidenced, among other things, by the contracts the Serbian Government and RTB Bor signed with the Zi Yin company, the agreement for the construction of the tyre factory in Zrenjanin, contract of the sale of Smederevo Steel Works to the Chinese company Hesteel and many other infrastructural and other projects.

Obradovic said that Serbia tops the list of the 16+1 process as the country with the most ongoing projects and contracts signed with China. He added that Serbia is the first European country to have a visa-free regime with China, as well as the location of the first Chinese-constructed bridge on the continent. Obradovic said he was very pleased that Chinese companies have found it in their economic interest to invest into Serbia.

The delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that the chief objective of the Ministry’s International Training Centre which they are members of is to foster cooperation with other countries by offering staff training and support. China’s goal is to develop ties and strengthen relations with other parts of the world as evidenced by the infrastructural project “One Belt, One Road” which is very important for Serbia as well.

The officials agreed that the two friendly countries enjoy excellent economic relations and that there is room for joint ventures to third markets.

The meeting was also attended by MPs Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, Dubravka Filipovski, Marija Obradovic and Ljiljana Malusic.
