European Integration Committee Chairperson Meets with Hungarian Foreign Ministry Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs

European Integration Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Balint Odor.

Saying how pleased she was with the well-developed bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Hungary, Natasa Vuckovic thanked Hungary for its political and professional support of Serbia’s European integration process. The Committee Chairperson said that a resolution is being prepared on the National Assembly’s role in the negotiation process – harmonisation of national legislation with the European acquis communautaire, control over the Government in the negotiation process and inclusion of civil society and other interested parties in the upcoming talks, all aimed at reaching broad political and social consensus. She also said that a parliamentary committee on stabilisation and association is being set up, comprising Members of the National Assembly and Members of the European Parliament, tasked with monitoring the implementation of the SAA.
Hungarian Foreign Ministry Deputy State Secretary for EU Affairs Balint Odor shared Hungary’s support of Serbia’s EU membership talks. He stressed that Hungary would impose no additional requirements for the formal beginning of the talks and would strive to resolve all the open issues through bilateral contacts. He was also interested in the inclusion of minority rights and illegal migration issues in the negotiation process and the post-election situation in Kosovo-Metohija.
Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic thanked Hungary for its support in the upcoming membership talks, stressing that the National Assembly, within its scope, strives to make the process inclusive and transparent. The officials agreed that there is room to further improve bilateral cooperation.
