Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Committee Chairman Receives Representatives of Associations of Serbs from Herzegovina

The Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Milimir Vujadinovic received today, at the National Assembly, representatives of several associations of Serbs from Herzegovina to discuss the position of Serbs from the former Yugoslav republics living in Serbia, as well as Serbia's relations with Herzegovina and creating better conditions for the development of economic cooperation.


In conversation with representatives of the Association of People from Nevesinje in Belgrade, Association of People from Trebinje "Jovan Ducic" in Belgrade, Association of People from Bileca in Belgrade, Association of People from Mostar in Belgrade, Club of People from Gacani in Belgrade, Association of People from Kalinovac in Belgrade, Association of Serbs from Herzegovina and Friends in Serbia and the Association of People from Ljubinje in Belgrade, Milimir Vujadinovic said that Herzegovina has been fighting for freedom throughout its history and now it is time to consider improving the quality of its citizens’ everyday life. He said that these associations represent an excellent link with Serbs in the region and the diaspora and that it is important to maintain the continuity of the Committee's cooperation with them.

During the conversation, the representatives of the associations stressed that it is important to improve the transport infrastructure to ensure better connection between Serbia and the southern part of the Republic of Srpska – Herzegovina and facilitate the transport of goods and passengers. They opined that this would boost Herzegovina’s tourist potential. They also talked about the importance of maintaining contact with the young people studying in Belgrade, through scholarships and secured accommodation in student dormitories.

The Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region stated that Belgrade's policy would always be to help and support the Republic of Srpska, while respecting the Dayton Accords and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized the great importance of the planned construction of the airport in Trebinje, to be realized jointly by Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, and added that every infrastructure project also sends the same strong political message - connections.

Milimir Vujadinovic emphasized the importance of supporting the "mini-Schengen" initiative launched by the President of the Republic of Serbia, which should result in easier and faster connections with the countries of the region and stronger economic ties.

The Chairman of the Committee for Diaspora and Serbs in the Region stressed that in order to maintain close ties, it is important for Serbs in the Republic of Srpska to exercise their right, based on the Agreement on Establishing Special Parallel Relations between Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, and apply for dual citizenship, which can be done in any consulate of the Republic of Serbia in the Republic of Srpska.

The meeting was also attended by Committee deputy member Jelica Sretenovic.
