Today at the National Assembly House, the Chairman and Deputy Chairperson of the European Integrations Committee, deputies Laslo Varga and Donka Banovic, talked to students of several Belgrade secondary schools participating in the realisation of project “It Rings for Europe”. This is a projects conducted by the European Movement in Serbia in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, aiming to brief young people on the obligations Serbia must fulfill on its road to the European Union.

Chairman Laslo Varga briefed the students on the organisation and work of the National Assembly, especially the responsibilities of the European Integrations Committee. He pointed out that by signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU Serbia has made an important step in approaching the EU, but that there is still a lot to be accomplished on that road. First of all, it is necessary that the parliament adopt about 50 more bills from the field of aligning the domestic legislature with EU legislature, creating formally legal conditions for Serbia’s candidacy for EU membership.

Deputy Donka Banovic pointed out that among the political parties in the parliament there is a high degree of accordance that Serbia should be a full-fledged EU member, but at the same time added that the EU itself is in the process of reformation. Therefore it is important that Serbia reform its economy and society and so prepare for integrations, Donka Banovic deemed.
