Delegation of Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy at Energy Community Group of Friends First Meeting

A delegation of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy, headed by its Chairperson, Dr Aleksandra Tomic, took part in the First Meeting of the Energy Community Group of Friends i.e. parliament members of the countries signatories of the Treaty establishing Energy Community.

At the meeting held in Vienna and organised by the Energy Community and the Regional Cooperation Council, the Energy Community Secretariat announced that it would be presenting its 2012-2013 Annual Implementation Report to the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy, at the National Assembly in autumn 2013.
The meeting focused on the Energy Community’s Energy Strategy and projects of interest for the Energy Community, the role of regulatory bodies, social dimension, guidelines regulating energy efficiency and renewable resources, guidelines regulating electric power and gas and regulations on compulsory oil reserves.
Janez Kopac, the Energy Community Director, said that the structure of the Energy Community reflects the European Union structure and the meeting aims to brief the parliamentarians on the most important EU energy policy issues. He stressed that in the first six months of its presiding over the Energy Community, Serbia has given a good example of cooperation and implementation of the Community’s decisions to other countries.
The participants agreed that the Energy Community is one of the rare international organisations without a parliamentary network and agreed that the established network should meet once a year so as to include parliamentarians into the process of implementation of the Energy Community Treaty.
The delegation of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy also comprised Committee members Vladimir Marinkovic and Ivan Jovanovic.
The First Meeting of the Energy Community Group of Friends was also attended by representatives of the parliaments of Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine.
