Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Members Visit Basic Police Training Centre in Sremska Kamenica

The members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee visited the Basic Police Training Centre in Sremska Kamenica.

The visit was planned as one of the activities the National Assembly performs as part of its control role over the security sector. The Committee members were presented the duties and tasks the Centre performs as the only basic police training centre in Serbia, as well as the results of the reform launched in 2007. The Committee members were also presented the training facilities such as the film shooting range and situation training cabinet, testing of the basic motoric status of police training candidates, and they also visited the boarding house and library. In the course of the visit the officials discussed the potential for improving the Centre’s normative framework noting that the new law on internal affairs, currently in the drafting stage, would provide the opportunity to pass adequate by-laws vital for a more effective organisation of basic police training. On the occasion, the Committee members again stressed that, besides the establishment of an optimal legal framework, it is extremely important to gain first-hand knowledge on the working conditions of police units, this Centre included.

The Committee delegation comprised MPs Marija Obradovic, Committee Chairperson, Bojan Kostres, Committee Deputy Chairman, Marko Djurisic, Committee member, and Dubravka Filipovski, Dusica Stojkovic and Balsa Bozovic, Committee substitute members. On the behalf of the Basic Police Training Centre, the Committee delegation was received by MA Bozidar Otasevic, Deputy Head of the Directorate for Professional Training, Development and Science of the Ministry of Interior, Biljana Puskar, Head of the Basic Police Training Centre, Miroslav Mijailovic, Centre Deputy Head, Zelimir Mrdalj, Centre Assistant Head and Zarko Jelaca, Centre coordinator.
