The officials mentioned the ongoing cooperation between the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues and the OSCE Mission to Serbia, as well as with other international organisations that provide support for the improvement of the legislative process and quality of legislative drafting in the Republic of Serbia. They stressed that, with the help of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative had passed the Uniform Methodological Rules for Legislative Drafting in the Republic of Serbia in 2010 which have, in their five years of existence, noticeably improved the quality of legislative drafting in the Republic of Serbia.

With the support of the OSCE Mission, the Committee also organised an international conference of legislative committees in 2011.

The Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues and the Warsaw Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) has yielded significant results as regards improving the legislative process and quality of legislative drafting, which were also used in the drafting of the relevant acts of the National Assembly. The next step in the cooperation could be a public presentation of the results of the cooperation at the National Assembly.

In the course of the meeting, Mr Uyehara asked about the Committee’s scope of activities, especially as regards the preparation of acts for the amendment of the Constitution. The Committee Chairman briefed Mr Uyehara on the Committee’s scope opining that a wide public debate among the political parties, experts, NGOs and international organisation would be crucial, and the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia would prove very important.
